This image was taken perhaps 20 miles into the Dalton Highway (aka The Haul Road, AK 11) and shows the Alyeska oil pipeline paralleling the road for a distance. The road was purposely built both to service the pipeline and to provide a means of transporting equipment and supplies from just north of Fairbanks to the oil rich North Slope.

Alaska Range Splendor
This south looking view of the Alaska Range was taken in mid-September of 2000 at a pipeline pull out perhaps 20 miles south of Delta Junction on The Richardson Highway (AK 4). The overnight snow soon melted off the road and immediate landscape but those mountains remained covered in white.
